This directory catalogues putative p53 DNA-binding elements in 2,583 human genes and 1,713 mouse
homologs based on the experimental data of el-Deiry el al and Funk el al. The algorithm p53Y2K2 was
developed to identify putative transcription factor DNA binding sites on a genome-wide scale with high
power and versatility. The p53 DNA binding motif consists of two 10-bp palindromes linked by a spacer
region of 0-14bp. Scanning from the 5' to 3' end of each gene with an additional 10-kb nucleotide sequence
appended at each end, p53Y2K2 computes the binding likelihood for each site under a discrete discriminant
model and then outputs ordered scores, corresponding site positions, sequences and other related information.
The directory is classified into 14 different biological pathways plus one micellaneous catagory.

The "Total Genes" column provides a links to tables containing all genes for each pathway.

The "Genes Scored" column indicates the total genes in each pathway.  A link is provided to directories
with the 10 highest binding sequence similarity scores for each gene.  Binding sequences include all matches
with a gap region of 0 - 14 bp.

The "Perfect Match" column indicates the total genes that match exactly to the consensus binding sequence
in each pathway. (ie. score of 100%)

The "Highest Scores" column indicates the total genes in each pathway that achieve a similarity score of 93%
or higher within a 13 kb restricted region for each gene. The region examed spans 3,000 bp upstream from the first
exon (10,001 bp) and 10,000 bp downstream.  At the bottom of the column a link is provided to a directory of the
specific genes.
